History[]

On page 120 of his book Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor - The Airliner that went to War, Juan-Carlos Salgado lists this aircraft as F8+GW.[2] Flown by Oberfeldwebel Karl Wittman, who was taken prisoner with his crew,[3] it went missing on 31 January 1943, during the retreat from Stalingrad.[N 1] Subsequently test flown by Soviet Engineer-Major Gribakin and Colonel Kabanov in the USSR, the aircraft was later put on display in Moscow.[2][N 2]

Notes[]

  1. Another source states that this aircraft was coded F8+OW, and landed at Chkalovskaya near Leningrad in April 1943.
  2. Kabanov's crew apparently had a low opinion of the aircraft![3]
