History
Built at Nagoya as one of 609 production Ki-46-III aircraft which first entered service in the summer of 1943. Allotted to the 3rd Chutai of the No 81 Sentai Imperial Japanese Army Air Force which had detachments (Independent Companies) throughout the South West Pacific.[1]
Tested by ATAIU-SEA at Tebrau AB, Malaya during 1946. This was one of four aircraft shipped from RAF Seletar back to the UK, arriving there in 1946. It was displayed at various RAF stations and exhibitions, starting with MU Sealand in 1947, Stanmore Park in 1948, RAF Wroughton in 1955, RAF Fulbeck in 1958, RAF Finningley in 1961, where it was repainted in Japanese markings, after which it went to RAF Henlow, RAF Biggin Hill in 1963, RAF Henlow again in 1968-69 and finally in 1970 at RAF St. Athan, where it was stored until 1989.
