History[]

This particular aircraft (c/n 2366) was one of two Ki-84's captured at the Nakajima Utsunomiya Plant in Japan after the end of the war. They were shipped to the USA on board USS Barnes (CVE-20) from Yokosuka on 3 November 1945. On 7 December 1945 they were handed to the USAAF, where the Office of Air Force Intelligence assigned the Foreign Evaluation numbers FE-301 and FE-302 to them. The latter is the subject airframe here.

FE-302 flew for the first time in the USA from Middletown Air Depot, Pennsylvania on 16 March 1946. It was delivered to Patterson Field, Ohio on 20 May 1946 and only seven days later it was transferred to the adjacent Wright Field.

Fate[]

After flight testing was concluded the aircraft was flown to the foreign aircraft storage area at Orchard Place Airport, Park Ridge, Illinois on 3 July 1946 for storage as aircraft T2-302. Nothing is known beyond that point, likely the aircraft was scrapped there a little later.
